I first retained Mr. McDermott in the first week of May, 1979, to handle a Union problem I was having. He took my matter very seriously; and I remember that he worked extremely hard to get the results that I was hoping for. Several years later, experiencing many problems with my marriage, I returned to Mr. McDermott, for assistance in getting a divorce. Again, not only did he take my matter seriously, but he also exhibited a great concern for the extremely difficult emotional issues which I faced at the time. He helped me not only with the divorce itself, but his advice also enabled me to see (more clearly and less emotionally) the “long term implications” of what I was then undergoing.
About five years after my divorce, when I sold my house, Mr. McDermott was able to help me avoid many pitfalls that others often fall into when hiring a real estate agent. In fact, through his efforts on my behalf, he ended up making me more than $11,000 extra on the sale of my home. Seven years after the sale of my home, I fell on some ice outside of a retail store; and again, I sought the services of Mr. McDermott. He had to fight very hard for me on my case, because the responsible party began (from the outset) denying any liability for the accident. After liability was established, the value of my injuries became the source of another major dispute which Mr. McDermott had to resolve. Suffice it to say that I was VERY pleased with the outcome of his actions on my behalf in that personal injury case. When my mother passed away, there were many estate issues which needed to be addressed and resolved. Again, Mr. McDermott not only took care of these various estate matters smoothly, but at the same time, I felt that he actually “felt” my loss and confusion at that time.
While working with him on yet another matter (a corporation which I had requested that he set up for me), approximately twelve years ago, Mr. McDermott confided to me (for the first time) that I had been his very first Client. He had just opened up his law offices on May 1, 1979; and I had been his very first case, when I walked into his office and hired him that fateful May 3rd, 1979. I only know this date, because he had kept a record of my visit, as his first Client, after opening his law practice.
Several years ago, a major corporate account of mine (a developer) went bankrupt, owing me over $86,000; nearly wiping-out my small company. As part of this disaster, I was brought into a suit because I was doing work for this developer; and he had ceased construction on a major development. This time, I went to Mr. McDermott, with “hat in hand” to ask him to represent me. I knew that my defense would be very expensive, but because of the “hit” I had taken when the developer went bankrupt, I had no money to pay Mr. McDermott to help me in this predicament. Mr. McDermott told me “not to worry”; filed his Appearance on my behalf in this case; and after nearly two and one-half years of litigation, won the case for me. I never received a bill for his services in that matter.
This past April (2008), after hiring him to represent me in a contract dispute, Mr. McDermott won my case, saving me thousands of dollars. Now, nearly 30 years after I first hired him, his office called me, to tell me that they were looking for “testimonials” to put onto the Firm’s new website, I told them that I would be delighted to give them one. What can I say about McDermott & McDermott, Ltd.? What more do I need to say?
